Example Visa Types

There are so many visa types that this web site cannot possibly list them all. These examples are representative of a few of the more common visa types which may interest you. Some people may qualify for more than one type of visa depending on your personal circumstances including age, qualifications, English language skills and whether you have a relative or friend who can either sponsor you or provide you with a letter of support to improve your chances of a successful visa application. Permanent visas, select the category which interests you:

  • Skilled Designated Area Sponsored Visa
    • There is NO POINTS TEST for this visa for skilled applicants with a relative in Australia willing to sponsor them.
       
  • Skilled Independent Visa
    • A points based visa for well qualified people with good English language skills which gives applicants points for their age, qualifications, work experience, education and English language ability.
       
  • Skilled Independent State / Territory Nominated Visa
    • A points based visa for skilled applicants willing to settle in an area where the State or Territory government will sponsor them due to their skills being in demand in that area.
       
  • Skill Matching Visa
    • A NO POINTS TEST visa where applicants list their skills on a national database so a State or Territory government or regional employer may then nominate them for migration to an area of skills shortage.
       
  • Employer Nomination Scheme Visa
    • A NO POINTS TEST visa for highly skilled applicants nominated by an employer who was unable to fill the position from within the Australian workforce.
       
  • Spouse / De Facto Spouse Visa
    • For applicants married to or in a de facto relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
       
  • Business Owner / Investment or Senior Executive Visa
    • For applicants with substantial businesses or investments or experienced senior executives.

Temporary visas, select the category which interests you:

  • Fiancé Visa
    • For applicants intending to marry an Australian citizen or permanent resident. After marriage the applicant can then apply for the permanent spouse visa, see above.
       
  • Skilled Independent Regional (Provisional) Visa
    • A visa for skilled workers willing to live and work in regional Australia where their skills are most needed.
       
  • Student Visa
    • Holders of a visitor visa may study in Australia for up to 3 months. For any course of study or training of 3 months or longer a student visa is required.
       
  • Visitor Visa
    • For those wishing to partake in amateur sporting activities, informal study courses, relaxation, sightseeing and travel and of course visiting relatives.
       
  • Business Visa
    • Either a short-term stay visa allowing participation in business activities or to explore business opportunities in Australia or a long-term visa sometimes requiring sponsorship for overseas workers.
